About The Tendring Peninsula

The Tendring Peninsula, known affectionately as Essex's Sunshine Coast, boasts a rich variety of towns and villages, providing plenty of interest for everyone to enjoy.

The peninsula itself forms the part of the North Essex coast bounded by the estuary of the River Stour to the north, the North Sea to the south and east, and the estuary of the River Colne to the west.

Clacton

Clacton-on-Sea is the largest town on the Peninsula. It offers Blue Flag award beaches, cinema, 2 theatres, factory outlet village, pier and amusements. Clacton has spacious sandy beaches, with smaller villages, resorts and river creeks just on its doorstep. Nearby, Jaywick has some of the finest beaches in the area.

Tendring's villages

Away from the coast there are abundant picturesque villages, most with very good pubs and all with good access to lovely rural countryside walks. Some of the lesser known villages have enjoyed great success in Anglia in Bloom competitions. Elmstead Market offers the internationally known Beth Chatto gardens.
